Bi Mar Muir Fèath
[Be as a Calm Sea]
Alone with An Geadh Fiadhaich
upon calm seas I prayerfully write,
I do not anticipate interruption.
Yet upon horizons distractions float
poised to rupture fragile thresholds
protecting inner from outer worlds.
Each demands cathartic relief.
Across my vision they come.
The beginning of desire arrests my eyes.
If for a moment I snatch a glimpse,
with irresistable force
they become floating mountains,
imposing islands whose desires
consume all attention, impede calm,
jettison prayerful writing
into maddening seas.
And I turn to Crìost, seek His eyes, trusting.
Standing on the shoulders of the ocean
He speaks, calms these unruly seas.
His eyes find mine, my repose Crìost sees:
I worship my Creator as the islands flee.
And with upwelling assurance I pray:
When I look towards the horizon
near or far, let Crìost draw my eyes to His.
Mar sin bitheadh.
