Soul Song
A Fable

Deep unto deep calls out.
Desire to journey floods Kuaka’s soul,
words unthought but known.

One song sung of leaving, arriving,
life wedged between two halves:
autumn farewells, spring’s arrivals.

Air surges: upwelling, lifting, flight.
Creator’s rhythm spurs wind on wing.
Feathers light, strong, flex together.

Nine days and nights coalesce -
one day everlasting.
A fast body shrinking,
consumed in flight.

Air, pressure, tone, cadence: Kuaka.
Kuaka moves with; Creator;
kith and kin sing to each other.

A-wik! a-wik!
Kuaka calls over ancient seas,
wordless songs, rich in meaning.
A void closes between soul and wing.

As Arctic’s polar star dips from sight,
Antipodes Southern Cross climbs high:
soul song hymns with earth, sea, sky.

Spirit guides Kuaka’s being,
subtle movements of communion
Kuaka follows Christ’s leading.

Of three treasures does Kuaka sing:
praises to God of unknown journeys,
trust in the sacred call,
and joy in the Divine Being.
