Wisdom’s Song
Glory to Ìosa Crìost
made to us wisdom from God
whose divine economy on earth
fashions our life to be fully human,
and we to be clothed with the sun,
the moon under our feet,
constellations crown our head;
our face radiant, brighter
than the moon, stars and sun.
Crìost let it be,
Let Wisdom be discerned
each breath commingling
with the Spiorad Naomh.
Transform our covering of fig leaves,
judgement robed in autumn leaves
fashioned by presumption’s desire,
coloured by a mortal’s breath
untouched by the Spirit’s sap.
Crìost let it be,
curate simplicity within
by loving obedience
to Wisdom’s divine call,
Not appeasing desires to conform
by some wayward ascetic form;
nor reshaped by fear’s norms,
nor any mould that that hinders
the Spirit’s transforming work.
Crìost let it be,
let Spiorad Naomh, love’s Wisdom,
enfold mind, soul and flesh;
Plane off the timbre of foul breath,
clothe our tongues in generous grace,
Your sweet fragrance from our lungs:
Wisdom’s pathos for the wounded,
gentle succour for the wretched,
untethered hands for the waylaid.
Crìost let it be,
in joyful obedience to Spiorad Naomh
Wisdom’s love coheres the Bride of Crìost
in polyphonic harmony;
grace and peace never withheld
towards some saint’s unfamiliar way
that shines true light in the darkness
as Aidan, Hilda and Mungo —
overcomers' faithful in Crìost.
