Let It Be

The gardener pondered:

“A caterpillar has no thought
to leap off some leaf. Yet
when its Creator vivifies
life's essence inside,

It wanders off to a quiet place
as if to say, "Let it be”:
Yields breath, water, clay to be moulded,
fashioned by the art of God.

Its essence waits actively-passive
inside a pupa gilded with gold,
receives an imprint from Christ’s fingers -
an unhoped for transformation.”

Then as he pruned a wintering tree
he prayed, “Let it be”.
